Stack 571 tacoma10/23/2023 Take the scenic route up the Spanish Steps to the Spanish Bar and Ballroom on the second floor before wending your way to Doc’s, a third floor games bar overlooking the ballroom pause on the nearby mezzanine overlooking Puget Sound. We wanted to see how much fun we could pack into seven floors, so we started with a McMenamins Brewery, the Bottle Shop & Brewery Tasting Room, and The Old Hangout on the ground floor, and worked our way up. Wherever you are in Elks Temple, you’ll find the comforts of your favorite neighborhood pub and a world of adventure. Threads of art, history and elements of the local community are woven into the structure. From the Old Hangout, a bar reminiscent of world travels, to the Spanish Ballroom, a grand space hosting live music, you’ll find entertainment at every turn. Pickle chips, double layered tomatoes and a pile of shredded lettuce gave it extra crunch the house sauce tasted mustardy with a lick of heat. The 571 burger ($8.95) was the most basic listed. I tried: A lamb burger ($12.95) with a juicy ground lamb patty stacked with flavor and crunch: cool cucumber tzatziki, peppery romesco sauce and a snappy mint slaw. Many other Northwest products pepper the menu. Beef burgers come with half-pound patties from Double R Ranch in Eastern Washington. Burgers draw inspiration from sandwiches across the world: banh mi, gyro, bocadillo. Ingredients range from straightforward burger accoutrements to funkier ingredients, such as bacon whiskey jam and tempura fried Parmesan oyster mushrooms. The menu: 11 burgers, including a veggie, a burger with chorizo and another with lamb ($8.95-$13.95). It was demolished in 1993 as part of the cleanup of the former ASARCO site where Point Ruston now resides. The namesake: The restaurant is named with a nod to the site’s former 571-foot smokestack that was said to be the tallest structure in the world at its construction in 1917.
